Emeritus Professor John Mackenzie is an Emeritus Professor of Curtin University in Perth, His research has focused on mosquito-borne virus diseases, and most recently, in defining the One Health concept. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, of the American Academy of Microbiology, and a Distinguished International Fellow of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH). He was the inaugural recipient of the Mahathir Science Award for Scientific Excellence by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. He has worked extensively with WHO, especially with the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network and the Asia Pacific Strategy for Emerging Diseases, and was a member of the Quadripartite (FAO, UNEP, WHO, WOAH) One Health High Level Expert Panel.
