Geology
Professor Dr Tetsuro Urabe has a career as Chief Geologist of the Geological Survey of Japan and as a Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Science at the University of Tokyo. His fields of expertise include marine geology and deep-sea mineral resources. He chaired the Ocean Development Committee, Ministry of Education (MEXT), and the Committee for Development of Seafloor Massive Sulfide Deposits, JOGMEC/METI. He led a SIP project of Japanese Government entitled “Zipangu in the Ocean Program” (2014-2018) as the Program Director. He is a former member of the Commission on the Limit of the Continental Shelf of United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (2011-2017).
