Biodiversity conservation advocate
Datuk Dr Ghazally Ismail FASc received his PhD in 1977 from Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, USA. Though trained as a medical immunologist, he is also a passionate naturalist and an ardent environmental advocate. After an illustrious career spanning more than 40 years, both as a research scientist and academic administrator, he now spends hi retirement travelling and writing. Not one who sits idly at home, he delved into the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in biodiversity research. With a techie friend in Kuala Lumpur, Lim Kooi Fong, he helped in the ideation of BoT-ALAM. This is the first home grown Generative AI system designed to facilitate discussions on Malaysian biodiversity. Developed with knowledge support from experts on biodiversity and environment, this pioneering project aims to bring greater accessibility to the most accurate, current, and relevant information on Malaysian biodiversity for use in teaching, research, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and ESG.
