Professor Dato’ Dr Ahmad Ibrahim FASc began his career in 1973 after graduating as a chemical engineer from Monash University. He worked as a research scientist at the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia, focusing on waste treatment technology for rubber processing. In 1978, he earned a PhD in wastewater engineering from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He significantly advanced waste treatment systems for palm oil mill effluents. As the Director of the Techno-Economic and TAS division in the institute from 1991 to 1993 and later with the Malaysian Palm Oil Promotion Council, he promoted palm oil globally, enhancing consumer understanding. After a stint at Technology Park Malaysia, he became the Vice-President of Research at Institut Piawaian dan Penyelidikan Perindustrian Malaysia (SIRIM). In 2011, he was appointed CEO of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. He also collaborates with Germany’s Fraunhofer research organisation to advance R&D in Malaysia.
