Professor Dr Poline Bala obtained a BA in Southeast Asian Studies from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya. She graduated with an MA in Asian Studies from Cornell University, US in January 1999. In May 2008, she graduated with a PhD in Social Anthropology from University of Cambridge, UK. She is now the Director of the Institute of Borneo Studies, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). Over the past two decades, Professor Poline has carried out research in the field of society-technology relationships, especially societal issues surrounding “small people” at the margins of technological advancement and innovation.
