POLICY DIALOGUE: THE WAY FORWARD FOR THE TROPICS

Lisualdo Gaspar presented his credentials to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on 9 July 2024, as Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Malaysia. He is a career diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste, having held various positions, including Director for Southeast Asia and Oceania Affairs and Director for Planning and Research. Abroad, Mr. Gaspar served as Ambassador to New Zealand, Counsellor at the Embassy in Jakarta, and Second Secretary at the Embassy in Canberra. He joined the Ministry in May 2001 and previously worked as Local Staff (Language Assistance) for the United Nations Missions in Timor-Leste (UNAMET & UNTAET). Mr. Gaspar holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Canberra and a Bachelor’s Degree from Universidade Nacional Timor Loro Sae Dili. He is fluent in English and Indonesian, moderately speaks Portuguese, and is a native speaker of Naueti.
