POLICY DIALOGUE: THE WAY FORWARD FOR THE TROPICS

Dr Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed, born on April 21, 1980, is a distinguished academic and professional in microbiology. She earned her PhD in Microbiology from Universiti Putra Malaysia (2018-2022), focusing on the degradation of used cooking oil. Prior to that, she completed her MSc in Biomedical Science at the University of Westminster, UK (2006-2007), and her BSc in Microbiology, Chemistry, and Zoology at the University of Bangalore, India (2002-2005). Mariyam has published several papers in reputable journals, including the Malaysian Journal of Biochemistry and the International Journal of Biomedical Research. Currently, she serves as the High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to Malaysia (2024-present) and previously held roles as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Technical Advisor at the Small Island Geographic Society. She is also an IRCA-certified Food Safety ISO 22000 Lead Auditor and has received prestigious scholarships from the University of Westminster and WHO.
