Ary Norton de Murat Quintella, born on January 18, 1963, in Rio de Janeiro, holds a B.Sc. in Social Psychology from the London School of Economics (1986) and completed his high studies at the Rio Branco Institute, focusing on Ecuador’s role in South America (2007). He has held various significant positions within Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Assistant in the Division of Sea, Antarctica and Space (1991-1994) and Director of multiple departments (2013-2020). His diplomatic missions include roles in Washington, Quito, and the EU. An academic, he taught at the Rio Branco Institute (2012-2016) and has received multiple honors, including the Order of Rio Branco. He is married to Ambassador Eugénia Barthelmess and has one daughter.
